Panthers Fall to Patriots in Preaseason

The Carolina Panthers defense came up big in the first half, holding Tom Brady off until the last two minutes of the first half. The first six Patriot possessions yielded four punts and two interceptions; hardly the stuff of a Superbowl winner. Brady looked befuddled as he threw two costly interceptions. He did not show signs of life until he ran his famous two minute drill at the end of the first half. The Panthers defense showed up to play, shutting down the Patriots high-powered offense for nearly two quarters.
On the ugly side, the Panthers receivers scored a big fat F for dropping too many passes to count. Billy Brown was booed off the field after dropping two touchdown passes that absolutely should have been caught. To the Panthers’ credit, they continued to throw to him, although he never really shook off the earlier drops.  The big question is:  what are the Panthers going to do about getting another receiver or two?  Hopefully, they will be able to pick up a veteran receiver from waivers in a couple of weeks.  The Seahawks have a large stable of receivers; they cannot keep all of them.
